In a recent interview with Gamespot, skateboard legend Tony Hawk opened up about the origins of his franchise.

“When we first released the game, I just thought it would be something that skaters would enjoy,” he explained. “And maybe that it would inspire skaters to start playing video games. First and foremost, I wanted the skaters to be happy with it. So it’s definitely just a pressure I took on myself.”

Debuting in 1999 for the original Playstation console, Hawk wanted to accurately represent not only the skating culture, but the lifestyle and interactions as well. The game was also known for having a stellar soundtrack too.

Pro Skater 5 is expected to launch this September for Xbox One and PS4.
