With the trailer for Independence Day: Resurgence finally coming to the light, more people are now aware of the film and the future of the franchise. Now, however, more people are aware of the fact that Will Smith’s character, Steven Hiller, is absent from the sequel. If you haven’t heard how he was written off yet, you can join Smith in his saddened state about the outcome.
On Independence Day: Resurgence’s official website it was revealed that Steven Hiller was killed in “an unknown malfunction during the test flight of the first Alien Hybrid Fighter.” When Will Smith heard of the news, he did not take it so well. “The trailer looks really cool,” he told Yahoo Movies. “I’m going to be sitting around with tears in my eyes when that one comes out. It was terrible when I found out my character died.”
Independence Day: Resurgence is slated to hit theaters June 24, 2016.
