The Nintendo 2DS has always been a cheaper and more restricted model of the Nintendo 3DS family of hardware. As of later this month, Nintendo has confirmed that the 2DS will be getting an even bigger drop with its price point dropping from $99.99 to $79.99 USD. On top of this, the 2DS will also come with a pre-installed copy of Mario Kart 7.

Initially, the 2DS was a brand new model or ‘SKU’, that was catered towards younger gamers. It removed the 3D feature and removed the clam-shell design of the 3DS. This would allow it to be handled comfortably and safely by younger hands and wouldn’t damage young eyes through the 3DS option. Realistically, it was a cheaper alternative that allowed players to purchase and play 3DS games for cheaper with the same amount of power.

While the 2DS was sold at $129.99 when it was first released back in 2013, it received a drop to $99.99 in 2015. Now, the upcoming price drop for $79.99 will occur on May 20th. It will mean the price has dropped by nearly 40%.
