It has been announced that the upcoming Star Wars Battlefront VR Mission will tie into the upcoming film, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

“Rogue One is in the same time period the base game covers, so to be relevant in the ever-evolving Star Wars universe we’ve since been able to work with Lucasfilm to make the connection here,” states James Svensson, producer at Criterion Games.

In the VR mission, players will pilot an X-wing against TIE Fighters and a Star Destroyer as they aid the Rebellion in a critical mission.

“These things are huge and powerful with a belly full of TIE fighters,” adds Svensson. “Being in a fight with a Star Destroyer is not a situation an X-wing pilot wants to find themselves in, but that’s where the player ends up. The player will have to keep their wits about them, with intense battle ensuing from every direction, to keep them and their wingmen alive as they complete a critical mission for the Rebellion.”

The next Star Wars Battlefront DLC was announced at Gamescom, and will see players fighting inside and outside the infamous Death Star. The DLC will include a mode called Battle Station, which is made up of three phases as the Rebels attempt to destroy the Death Star. The DLC will release next month for Battlefront Season Pass holders, and will release two weeks later for everyone else.

Star Wars Battlefront Rogue One: X-wing VR Mission will be available for free for the PlayStation VR headset. The PlayStation VR will release on October 13th.
