To the joy of many cult followers of the unique and wonderful Psychonauts, a sequel was announced and put on Fig for a crowd-funding campaign. After raising nearly 4 million dollars, Double Fine was all ready to dive head first into this exciting development. We still have a lot of time before Psychonauts 2 is finally released, but now Double Fine has a production partner to make sure things run smoothly.
In a video update from Tim Shafter, the President and CEO of Double Fine Productions, it was announced that Starbreeze Studios would be the producers of Psychonauts 2. If you don’t know the name, you may be familiar with some of their work. The Swedish company has worked on PayDay 2, Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons, and Dead by Daylight.
While this news is great to hear, the video update also shares some great new behind the scenes footage of how Psychonauts 2 is coming along. Shafter is joined by Project Lead, Zak McClendon, who shows off some great new environments and gameplay details that players will experience in the highly anticipated sequel. Be careful, however, as there may be some slight spoilers in the video. We can’t wait to get our hands on Psychonauts 2 down the line. Here’s to Double Fine and Starbreeze making a great team.
