It’s no secret that Prometheus, despite being set in the Alien universe, was only a prequel to the beloved science-fiction series in its loosest definition. Thankfully, Alien: Covenant is shaping up to be a much more direct prequel to the series with Ridley Scott’s confirmation of the infamous xenomorph in all of its life stages.

The director recently had an interview with The Wrap; in it, Scott relayed information regarding how closely related the then-named Prometheus 2 would be to the Alien franchise. “They’re going to go to the planet where the engineers came from, and come across the evolving creature that they had made.”

Scott continued on to the origins of the xenomorph, “Why did they make it? Why would they make such a terrifying beast? It felt bio-mechanoid, it felt like a weapon. And so the movie will explain that, and reintroduce the alien back into it. There was always this discussion: Is Alien, the character, the beast, played out or not? We’ll have them all: egg, face-hugger, chest-burster, then the big boy. I think maybe we can go another round or two.”

Alien 5

With that last quote, fans can certainly expect to see the use of facehuggers, chestbursters and even the adult xenomorph in the next film.

There’s also a lengthy future ahead for the Prometheus series with three more films on the way. Meanwhile, the tentatively titled Alien 5, which is to be directed by Neill Blomkamp, has been put on hold until the production and release of Alien: Covenant is completed.
