Coming in hot on the heels of the release Competitive Play Season 2, Overwatch will be free for console gamers to try out next weekend.

Running September 9-12, the free play weekend applies to both PS4 and Xbox One, giving gamers the chance dip their toes in the full range of what the game has to offer. Now with 13 maps, the newest, Eichenwalde, added yesterday, Overwatch also features 22 heroes to choose from and four different game modes. All of this will be accessible through the free weekend, with players given the option to jump into Quick Play, Custom Games, and the latest Weekly Brawl. No mention is made of Competitive Play.

Weighing in at 9GB on PS4 and 15GB on Xbox One, the free trial of Overwatch will be available for download on September 9 at 11 AM PT. While PlayStation is not requiring gamers have PS Plus in order to access the game, Xbox is requiring you have Xbox Live Gold.

At the end of the trial weekend, all progress will be saved and carried over if gamers do in fact decide to purchase the title.

With the launch of Season 2, not only is Blizzard mixing up the competitive mode for Overwatch, the team is introducing a host of balance changes to more than a few of the game’s heroes.
